Biography:

Elizabeta Lazebnik (she/their) is an award-winning, Toronto-based filmmaker. She has been making films ever since she immigrated to Canada in 2003, and their films have screened worldwide, including numerous screenings at TIFF. Be Still, their feature film about pioneering Canadian photographer Hannah Maynard, won three Leo Awards and was picked up for distribution by Game Theory Films. As a director, Elizabeta is interested in psychological thrillers, mysteries, and stories about female and non-binary individuals; as an autistic person, she is also interested in stories that explore the many unique ways in which people perceive the world around them. She also likes to use boundary-pushing techniques – such as those related to surrealism – that convey strong visual statements.
