Our Part 9 The House Health and Safety course is a detailed technical course. This building code course deals with examination of plans and inspection of health and safety aspects of the house as found in the Ontario Building Code. The curriculum covers fire safety and protection; chimneys, fireplaces, inserts and solid-fuel-burning appliances; stairs; guards; insulation; health and comfort requirements; party walls; and final interior and exterior inspections.

Course Delivery Method:
This version of the course is held during the day at an off-site Ontario Building Officials Association (OBOA) location. We also offer an in-class version of the course and an online version of the course.
You must bring a copy of the 2012 Building Code Compendium to the first class. The compendium is available for purchase at the George Brown College bookstore (either on campus or online), at our Building Code and Trade Manuals website and at the Publications Ontario website. The Part 9: The House – Health & Safety technical manual will be provided during the first class and is included in the cost of this course.
The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH) exam is not included. MMAH exam and Building Code Identification Number (BCIN) information can be found on the MMAH website. (Humber College hosts the Building Code exams on behalf of the MMAH. Visit the Humber College Ontario Building Code Examinations website to schedule and pay for the applicable exam.)
You must have a general understanding of the building construction process and basic blueprint reading skills and you must have completed BLDG 9245 Part 9 The House Building Envelope or BLDG 9265 Part 9 The House Building Envelope (Distance Learning) or BLDG 9288 Part 9 The House Building Envelope Daytime. (An approved equivalent is also acceptable.)
