Our Building Officials Fundamentals Program is intended to help you prepare for the building official role at a municipal level. This building officials program is best suited for those with technical backgrounds (construction, architectural technology, engineering technology, the trades) but is also appropriate for those from a number of other disciplines that municipalities need to regulate buildings (planning, business, law, environmental studies, communications, geoscience, mathematics, economics).

Notes

This program has been designed by George Brown College Continuing Education in collaboration with the Ontario Building Officials Association (OBOA). Program participants are eligible for the OBOA Student membership.

Completion Details

Once you have completed all the requirements of this program, you can request to receive a certificate using the department contact information on this web page. Program graduates may wish to pursue the Building Code Identification Number (BCIN) exams for House 2012 and General Legal/Process 2012 in order to be eligible for the OBOA Building Code Qualified (BCQ) certification in Housing. In addition, the OBOA is committed to maintaining information on everyone who completes this program. Graduates will have full access to the OBOA industry website, a profile that municipal recruiters will be able to see, the ability to update that profile to reflect changes (such as additional courses or BCIN exams), and the ability to view Ontario municipal building official job postings.
