• Welding Fundamentals Certificate

Acquire the fundamental skills, shop practices and knowledge you need to be able to weld safely and effectively in basic shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and oxy-fuel welding. Based on the Canadian Welding Group Institute’s CWBi Acorn national welding program, our Welding Fundamentals Certificate is delivered in a blended format that combines classroom, online and shop environments. This welding certificate will prepare you to challenge the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) flat and horizontal position tests for SMAW and GMAW welds.

The courses listed here do not represent the extent of the requirements for welders looking to work in Ontario. Students can register for CWB flat, horizontal, vertical, and/or overhead position welding testing held on-site at George Brown College. Tests are overseen by the CWB and, if you pass a test, the CWB will issue the appropriate CWB welding ticket/licence. For more information about CWB certification/qualifications services or to book an alternative test date, visit the CWB website.
