Biography:

Phil Gurski is the president and CEO of Borealis Threat and Risk Consulting. He speaks to audiences around the world about homegrown Al Qaeda-inspired extremism and is the author of three books on the topic: The Threat from Within: Recognizing Al Qaeda-inspired Radicalization and Terrorism in the West, Western Foreign Fighters: The Threat to Homeland and International Security and The Lesser Jihads: Bringing the Islamist Fight to the World. Before starting in the private sector, Phil spent more than 30 years in a variety of senior analyst and special adviser roles for such government agencies as the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, the Communications Security Establishment, and Public Safety Canada. He has also acted as a consultant for the Ontario Provincial Police’s Anti-Terrorism and Hate Crimes unit. In addition to his teaching work at George Brown College, Phil is an associate fellow at the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism in the Netherlands and a digital fellow at the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies at Concordia University.
