TSSA Gas Technician 1

Hybrid
On Campus

The Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) offers the Gas Technician 1 licence (G.1 licence). A G.1 licence allows you to work as a technician within the gas service industry with no restrictions.

Individuals who complete the TSSA-approved G.1 training and pass the related provincial qualification exam are eligible to receive the G.1 licence from the TSSA. The TSSA awards the licence. However, George Brown College Continuing Education has been recognized by the TSSA as an approved provider of both the Gas Technician training courses and the required provincial qualification exams.

For more information about the G.1 licence, visit the TSSA Training and Certification web page.

Prerequisites

You must have a valid Gas Technician 2 (G.2) licence and written confirmation of your work experience detailing two years (4,000 hours) of field experience as a G.2-licensed gas technician (of which at least 500 hours must be on systems with an input in excess of 400,000 BTUH under the direct supervision of a G.1-licensed gas technician).

Completion Details

You must meet the attendance and grade requirements specified on each course's web page to qualify for the EX 03 TSSA Gas Technician 1 Exam. You must also achieve 75% or higher on the EX 03 TSSA Gas Technician 1 Exam to qualify for the TSSA G.1 licence. If you wish to challenge the exam without completing the training course and you have written approval from the TSSA and two years (4,000 hours) of work experience as a G.2-licensed gas technician (with a minimum of 500 hours on systems larger than 400,000 BTUH under direct supervision), you can register for EX 9002 TSSA Gas Technician 1 Exam: TSSA Referral instead of completing the course requirements listed here. If you pass the challenge exam, you will be required to complete a practical skills assessment conducted by a TSSA Training and Certification advisor.
