Dental Office Radiography Program FAQ

This section is intended to answer your frequently asked questions (FAQ) about our Dental Office Radiography Program.

How long does the Dental Office Radiography Certificate take to complete?

Our Dental Office Radiography Program consists of three compulsory courses, each taking approximately three months to complete. Our DENT 9271 Dental Anatomy course and our DENT 9239 Dental Radiography I course can be taken at the same time, if your schedule permits. We also offer compressed (fast-track) schedules so that you can complete the courses more quickly. Check out the Dental Health courses for details.

Can I obtain an exemption for the DENT 9271 Dental Anatomy course in the Dental Office Radiography Certificate if I've taken it at another school?

If you have taken a similar course to our DENT 9271 Dental Anatomy course at another college or university within the last five years, you can request that your documents be evaluated for a course exemption in our Dental Office Radiography Program. Email the course outline and your academic transcript to the Continuing Education Community & Health Services department at cecommunity@georgebrown.ca.

How do I obtain Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) for a course in the Dental Office Radiography Certificate and do a challenge examination in dental anatomy?

Contact the Dental Office Radiography Program program co-ordinator at 416-415-5000, ext. 2126, or cecommunity@georgebrown.ca to inquire about PLAR procedures, application forms and fees. We can provide you with the dental anatomy course outline in advance so you can prepare for the exam.

Can I meet the Healing Arts Radiation Protection (HARP) Act requirements with the Dental Office Radiography Certificate?

Yes. Our Dental Office Radiography Program offers HARP-approved courses that meet the requirements laid out in the Healing Arts Radiation Protection Act. This certificate program is recognized by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care's Performance and Compliance Branch (Licensing and X-ray Inspection).

What if I haven't completed grade 11 or 12 biology? Is there a Continuing Education course that I can take to prepare me for the Dental Office Radiography Certificate?

Yes. You can take BIOL 9007 Preparatory Biology through Distance Education. Once you have successfully completed this course, you can register for our DENT 9271 Dental Anatomy course in our Dental Office Radiography Program. Remember to bring proof of your biology course completion to the first night of class. Your George Brown academic transcript (accessible through your online student account) is proof.
