Part 9 The House Building Envelope Daytime BLDG 9288


Our Part 9 The House Building Envelope course is a detailed technical course. This building code course deals with the construction of houses as single detached dwellings under Division B, Part 9, of the Ontario Building Code. The curriculum covers building inspectors, plans, building permits and site plans; construction of foundations; floors-on-ground; reinforced concrete slabs; roofs and ceilings; and floors and walls, including brick veneer.

Course Delivery Method:

This version of the course is held during the day at an off-site Ontario Building Officials Association (OBOA) location. We also offer an in-class version of the course and an online version of the course.

Course Essentials:

You must bring a copy of the 2012 Building Code Compendium to the first class. The compendium is available for purchase at the George Brown College bookstore (either on campus or online), at our Building Code and Trade Manuals website and at the Publications Ontario website. The Part 9: The House – Building Envelope technical manual will be provided during the first class and is included in the cost of this course.

MMAH Exam:

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs (MMA) exam is not included. Ministry exam and Building Code Identification Number (BCIN) information can be found on the MMA website. (Humber College hosts the Building Code exams on behalf of the MMA. Visit the Humber College Ontario Building Code Examinations website to schedule and pay for the applicable exam.)


You must have a general understanding of the building construction process and materials and basic blueprint reading skills.
