French Language Program

Our French Language Program meets the needs of those who wish to develop or improve their French for use in the workplace and in everyday situations. This French program offers a range of courses – from beginner to advanced – which emphasize authenticity, active participation, pronunciation, listening skills and role-playing. These courses also give considerable attention to the diversity of the francophone community worldwide.

There are no prerequisites if you choose to start this program with our introductory FREN 9211 French 1A course. However, if you have previous French language experience and wish to fast-track this program, you must either do a placement interview (so we can determine your French language proficiency and the course most suitable for you to start with) or apply for course exemptions (if you have completed the equivalent courses at an accredited post-secondary institution within the last three to five years).

Completion Details

You must complete our FREN 9216 French 2C course, our FREN 9217 French 3A course and our FREN 9218 French 3B course regardless of your placement interview or exemption results. Once you have completed all the requirements of this program with a cumulative grade average of B (73%) or better, you can request to receive a certificate.
