    OntarioLearn description: Many clients seek help from community and social service agencies because they have been unable to cope or manage with problem situations very well. In this regard, social service workers can play a vital role in assisting clients to make constructive changes. In order to help clients to make constructive changes, it is important for a social service worker to develop knowledge and skill in the area of interviewing and counseling. This course provides the students with an introduction to the basic theory and skills which are necessary for effective interviewing and counselling. A microskills approach to intentional counselling will be taken. Throughout this course, the student will use role-play situations to practice skills, concepts, and methods designed to develop concrete competencies in interviewing and counseling.
