A micro skills approach will be taken; students will be introduced to each of the individual communication units one at a time and have opportunities to incorporate them into practice through participation in small group exercises. The focus will be on the counselling skills that comprise the basic listening sequence (BLS), an essential component in the development of a strong therapeutic alliance.
