Beginning Medical Transcription OP 9022 Online OntarioLearn Email to a Friend OntarioLearn description: This is a beginning medical transcription course designed to provide students with a working knowledge of transcription of medical reports. Transcription is taking the spoken word and turning it into a written document. Case studies are provided so that the student will gain knowledge in the transcribing of various medical reports. Medical reports will be transcribed from ten individual case studies, each of which concerns an in-patient with a specific medical problem. There are between four and eight reports within each case study. Students will be involved in the care of the patient from the date of admission through the date of discharge. Note(s) Course Delivery Method: This is an online course delivered via OntarioLearn. Make sure you are familiar with the basic technology requirements for OntarioLearn online courses. Teacher support (via email) and technical support (via phone) will be available for this course. Course Essentials: You will be required to have a sound card, speakers and transcription playback software. Transcription playback software can be downloaded for free from the Internet. (Traditional equipment will be simulated). You may also choose to purchase a foot pedal from the software download site (optional). If you are a Macintosh user, you must also purchase a Microsoft Word compatibility program. Prerequisite(s) You must have completed OP 9026 Medical Transcription Fundamentals and OP 9035 Medical Transcription Styles and Practices and all their prerequisites. (Approved equivalents are also acceptable.) You must also be able to type a minimum of 30 words per minute, be familiar with a word processing package (Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, Keyboarding Pro) and have good punctuation and grammar skills.
