Beginning Medical Transcription OP 9022 Distance Learning Online OntarioLearn Email to a Friend OntarioLearn description: This is a beginning medical transcription course designed to provide students with a working knowledge of transcription of medical reports. Transcription is taking the spoken word and turning it into a written document. Case studies are provided so that the student will gain knowledge in the transcribing of various medical reports. Medical reports will be transcribed from ten individual case studies, each of which concerns an in-patient with a specific medical problem. There are between four and eight reports within each case study. Students will be involved in the care of the patient from the date of admission through the date of discharge. Note(s) Course Delivery Method: This is an online course delivered via OntarioLearn. Teacher support will be available via email, and technical support will be available via phone. Technical/Computer Requirements: Refer to the basic technology requirements for OntarioLearn online courses, but note that the traditional equipment will be simulated so you will also be required to have a sound card, speakers and transcription playback software (which can be downloaded for free from the Internet). You may wish to have a foot pedal (optional), and Macintosh users must also have a Microsoft Word compatibility program. Prerequisite(s) You must also be able to type a minimum of 30 words per minute, be familiar with a word processing package (such as Microsoft Word, WordPerfect or Keyboarding Pro) and have good punctuation and grammar skills, and you must have completed OP 9026 Medical Transcription Fundamentals and OP 9035 Medical Transcription Styles and Practices and all their prerequisites. (Approved equivalents are also acceptable.)
